Melanie Lynskey

 

Melanie Jayne Lynskey ( born 16 May 1977) is a New Zealand actress. She is known for her portrayals of women who are complex and her fluency in American dialects. She is mostly involved in independent films. Lynskey was awarded two Critics' Choice Awards. A Gracie, a New Zealand Film Award. A Hollywood Film Award. Sundance Special Jury Award. Gotham, Satellite and Saturn. Independent Spirit. Screen Actors Guild. Primetime Emmy Award nominations.





 Lynskey's screen debut was in Heavenly Creatures (1994), where she won an award called a New Zealand Film Award as her performance of Pauline Parker, a teenage murderess. She later has appeared in several international productions that included Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But I'm a Cheerleader The Cherry Orchard, Snakeskin (2001), Shooters, Abandon, Sweet Home Alabama (2/22/02). After making the move to the United States, Lynskey became well-known as a character actor who gained recognition for her variety of small and large-budget film projects, like Shattered Glass (2003), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Away We Go, Up in the Air, The Informant!, Leaves of Grass (all 2009), Win Win (2011), Seeking a Friend for the end of the World, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (both 2012) and They Came Together (2014), and Don't Take a Look (2021).





 Lynskey was nominated for a Gotham Award in 2012 for her performance as a depressed divorcee in the film Hello I Must Be Going. It was a pivotal change in her professional career. The Big Ask (2013), Happy Christmas. We'll Never See Paris. Goodbye to All That (all 2015), The Intervention. Rainbow Time. Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm Not Feeling at Home in This World.
